How it works
How to read the books.
Read the book out loud. You do not have to understand it. Just read loudly.
The three steps
01
Choose a book
Open any book you are willing to stay with. You do not need to know the words before the first page.
02
Read it aloud
Read the page out loud. You do not need to understand the English. Hearing your own voice is the practice.
03
Keep going
Come back and read aloud again. A little each day is enough. Meaning can come later. The reading comes first.
Why the reading is out loud
A voice cannot skip
Silent reading lets the eye jump ahead. Speaking makes you finish the word that is actually on the page.
The ear learns the sentence
You hear where the line rises and where it rests. That rhythm is part of the English, not an extra lesson.
Meaning can arrive later
You are allowed to understand only part of a page. The next reading is easier because the sound is no longer new.
What to do with a word you do not know
Say it once, as close as you can, and finish the sentence. Do not stop the page.
A dictionary is for after the reading, and only if you still want the meaning. During the page, your job is the voice.
If the same word appears again tomorrow, greet it. It already has a sound.
Stay with one book for a while
A new book every day keeps every name unfamiliar. One book gives the English a chance to repeat.
- Keep the same story until the people in it are easy to say.
- Read from where you stopped. Do not restart unless you want to.
- Leave a book only when you are ready for another voice, not because a page was hard.
A quiet week of reading
There is no schedule to keep perfectly. This is only a shape for the first days.
01
The first day
Read only the opening page. Stop while you still want to continue.
02
The days after
Return to the same book. One page out loud is enough.
03
When starting feels easy
Read two pages. Keep the same slow voice. Do not race the chapter.
04
When you are tired
One paragraph still counts. The practice is the return, not the length.
You can begin with any book on the shelf.
Open it. Read the first page loudly. Come back to the same place tomorrow.
